Community Groups

Purpose Statement

Community Groups are gatherings of people

learning to live the Word of God: “I love you.”

What is a Community Group?

The Bible describes the Church and its relationship with Jesus in this way: “And God placed all things under Jesus’ feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way” (Eph. 1:22-23).  The Church is not a building, nor is it found in one specific location. The Church is the people of God in whom the Spirit of God dwells.

While corporate worship and public teaching is one way the church gathers and grows in the New Testament, we find also in Scripture that the “house to house” gathering is equally important and also defined as “church.” If the idea of “Church” is reduced to referring only to the Sunday gathering, we believe the faith of God’s children will remain underdeveloped and the manifestation of their supernatural gifts will remain largely unused.

We believe that both Sunday morning and our midweek gatherings are church, with equal expectation, responsibility, and opportunity for ministry to take place.   We believe that both provide a unique way for the Spirit of God to instruct and inspire His people.

So our Community Groups at The Refuge Church are small gatherings of individuals who are committed to each other, committed to the reading and speaking the Word of God, and committed to discovering our spiritual gifts to be used for the building up of God’s church.
