A Church of the City

71% of our community (Kitsap County) doesn't go to church.

We are the underdogs--the outsiders.

What does it mean to be a church on the outside?

Jesus shows us how. The way the Bible describes Jesus coming to earth (literally God taking on a human body) is: "The Word (Jesus) became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood" (John 1:4, The Message). He entered into the life of the world.

Jesus said, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14-16). That means we are made to be the brilliance of God to the people we are around. The heart of God is to not withdraw his people (the church) from the city. His desire is for us to show his goodness and greatness to the city through blessing it and building it up.

We describe what this means for us in our "Theological Vision":

A church of the city.

Incarnating King Jesus in city life.

          Speaking its language.

          Singing its rhythms.

          Sharing its spaces.

          Freeing the oppressed.

          Fighting injustice.

          Finding people of peace.

Inviting the city into the Kingdom of God.

The main way we do this is by investing our time and resources in The Coffee Oasis.
