Listen to the inaugural address of Jesus to his first followers. Dallas Willard describes the gathered crowd as "the flunk-outs and drop-outs and burned-outs. The broke and the broken. The drug heads and the divorced. The HIV-positive and herpes-ridden. The brain-damaged, the incurably ill. … The lonely, the incompetent, the stupid. The emotionally starved or emotionally dead. And on and on and on.” They weren't the cream of the crop or the esteemed in society, but they came to listen to someone speaking hope that reached them with real power. That hope and that power is for us today. It is the Jesus way.
